Purpose: Grinding flapwheels, KL type with a direct profile of the flaps is used for various operations of coarse, intermediate and fine grinding of surfaces of parts made of structural and alloyed (stainless) steels, brass, aluminum and other metals and alloys, a variety of plastics and polymer coatings, wood, composite materials based on wood and plastics, and many others. Flapwheels successfully work both on flat, and on cylindrical surfaces, and shaped details, both with preliminary profiling, and without it. Quick and easy profiling of the flap wheel allows you to process profile long (linear) products.
When the wheel rotates, due to the free, radially located petals of the grinding cloth, the working surface has a soft, elastic effect on the workpiece and "forgives" the excessive excess of the force of pressing the part to the wheel and periodic shock loads.
Flap wheels are used when working on many types of grinding machines, as well as with manual grinding machines, which significantly increases the productivity and quality of the processed surface compared to manual grinding with sandpaper. The surface treated with grinding flap wheels has a lower roughness (it turns out smoother) than the surface obtained after processing with an endless belt of the same grain size. Therefore, when choosing the grain size of the flap wheel, it is necessary to take into account this feature of the grinding tool.
Equipment: hand-held electric and pneumatic machines, stationary grinding machines of various types - single-duplex, centerless, feed-through type, multi-operation and others.
Basis: sanding cloth based on cotton, synthetic or mixed fabrics.
Operationalfeatures: direction of rotation strictly in the direction indicated on the label. The peripheral speed V and the working revolutions N of the flap wheel must not exceed those indicated on the label. Recommended peripheral speed V should be 35 m / s. An increase in peripheral speed leads to an increase in the stiffness of the petals of the wheel, a decrease in the contact spot of the petal with the workpiece, and a decrease in the cutting ability of the wheel. To compensate for this decrease, the operator often increases the force of pressing the wheel to the workpiece, which leads to overheating of the part and the occurrence of burns, overheating of the wheel and other undesirable consequences. Such actions are unacceptable. With the right choice of the optimal pressure of the flap wheel to the workpiece, a balance is maintained between the maximum cutting capacity of the wheel and the maximum tool life.
